On the 26th October the Hungarian State Opera holds a Solti Remembrance Day. The program series commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the world-renowed Hungarian conductor, Sir Georg Solti.
Elements of the program include:
12 noon – THE MAESTRO. Exhibition of the relics of Sir Georg Solti's life. Venue: Red Saloon.
1 pm – HE RETURNED HOME. Professional debate remembering the life and accomplishments of the great Hungarian composer, chaired by András Batta, President of The Liszt Academy of Music. Participants include oustanding artists like Éva Marton, Kolos Kováts, Tamás Körner, Alexandru Agache, Tamás Daróczi, Domonkos Héja, Tamás Velenczei, Gábor Dienes.
3 pm – GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG. Film screening (a reportage of the Maestro produced by the Hungarian State Television followed by a backstage reportage made by Decca in 1964.) Venue: Székely Bertalan Hall.
5.30 pm – Wreath laying ceremony at the memorial tablet of Sir Georg Solti.
6 pm – Remembrance ceremony on stage in front of the audience (before the performance of W. A. Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro) – a remembrance ceremony where the widow of the Maestro, Lady Valerie Solti and H.E. Ms Katalin Bogyay, President of the General Conference of UNESCO will applaud the artistic accomplishments of the great conductor. The host of the ceremony will be Szilveszter Ókovács, Acting General Director of the Hungarian State Opera.
6.20 pm – Le nozze di Figaro. Singers: Andrea Rost, Gábor Bretz, Pietro Spagnoli, conductor: Péter Halász.
