Claudio Schmid - lightning designer 

 

Claudio Schmid graduated as an architect in Venice, Italy in 1985. He got into theatre as a lightning assistant, starting his career with director A. Calenda. He continued working as a lightning designer in Trieste, at the Teatro Lirico G. Verdi where he cooperated with directors Gino Landi, Lorenzo Mariani and Maurizio Nichetti. In 1997 he staged W. A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte with director Stefano Vizioli, a production followed by further operas like Norma (Lisbon 1988), Nabucco (Choregies d'Orange, Opera Royale de Wallonie 1998), Nozze Istriane (Trieste1999), Don Pasquale (Cagliari 2002 ) and Rigoletto (Palermo 2009). Schmid continued his career with participating in productions like Wagner's tetralogy directed by F. B.Gottschalk and W. Pagliaro, Otello and Peter Grimes directed by Paul Curran, Lucia di Lammermoor directed by G. Ciabatti and Tancredi directed by M. Gasparon. He has worked regularly with opera director Ivan Stefanutti in operas like Manon Lescaut, L'elisir d'amore and L'Orfeo. Schmied is a widely sought after artist by Italian music theaters, his recent works as a lightning designer include the ballet Cinderella at the Palermo teatro Massimo (2011) as well as the opera Turandot in Palermo Teatro di Verdura (2011).
