He studied set and costume design in the Mozarteum in Salzburg from 1985 to 1989. He has been a freelance designer since 1991. He has designed sets for directions of Harry Kupfer, Götz Friedrich, Andreas von Homoki, Olivier Tambosi and Philipp Himmelmann in several European and American opera houses (Amsterdam, Barcelona, Venice, Vienna, Munich, Berlin, Cologne, London, Chicago, New York, etc.). His recent works: The Love for Three Oranges, Der Rosenkavalier, Falstaff (Berlin), Manon Lescaut (San Francisco), L'italiana in Algeri (Hannover), La fanciulla del West (Tokyo), Lucia di Lammermoor (Amsterdam), Tannhäuser (Cologne), and the scenic design of Ring in Bayreuth staged by Tankred Dorst.
