Balázs Kocsár | Conductor

Balázs Kocsár learnt composition in the Béla Bartók Secondary School of Music, then conducting at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music where he obtained his degree in 1991 as a student of Prof. Ervin Lukács. He participated in masterclasses of Helmuth Rilling, Péter Eötvös and Jorma Panula, then he finished his studies at the Music Academy of Vienna as the student of Prof. Karl Österreicher. 

In 1989 he was the third prize winners of the 6th International Conducting Competition of the Hungarian Television, and in 1995 he received the first prize of the Franco Ferrara Conducting Competition organized by the Opera of Roma. 


1990-1993 Opera conductor at Szeged National Theatre in Hungary 

1991-1994 Assistant-conductor at National Philharmonic Orchestra in Hungary 

Since 1992 Conducts regulary in the Hungarian State Opera 

1993-1999 Musical Director of the Csokonai Theatre in Debrecen 

Since 1997 he conducts at several operas and symphony orchestras in Italy (Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Arena di Verona, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Teatro Verdi Triest, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, Orchestra Verdi di Milano), Belgium (Antwerpen, Vlaamse Oper, De Filharmonie) Germany and Switzerland 

1999-2002 „Erste Kapellmeister at the Opera of Frankfurt-am-Main 

Since 2005 he works in Debrecen as the artistic director of the Debrecen Philharmonic Orchestra, of the Kodály Choir and the musical director of the Csokonai Theatre
