Anatolij Fokanov | Opera Singer

He graduated from the Novosibirsk Academy of Music as a singer, teacher and chorus leader. He became a soloist of the Novosibirsk Opera, and later in other cities in his country: Saratov, Ufa and Dushambe. He won first prize at the prestigious Sobinov Competition in Saratov in 1991. In Russia he has sung all the major baritone roles of operatic literature, and worked with many renowned conductors. After his repeated visits as a guest singer, he joined the Hungarian State Opera House in 1992, and he has been a member of the company ever since. He mainly sings roles in Verdi and Verismo operas. Major roles: Escamillo (Carmen), Count Tomsky (The Dame of Spades), Gerald (Giordano: André Chénier), Scarpia (Tosca), Nabucco, Macbeth, Rigoletto, Count Luna (Il trovatore), Germont (La traviata), Count Ankarström gróf (Un ballo in maschera), Amonasro (Aida), Rodrigo (Don Carlo), Iago (Otello).
