Marianne Wieber | Costume Designer

She was born in Érsekújvár (Nové Zámky, Slovakia), and after her studies in the Secondary School of Fine Arts, Budapest, she studied costume design with Judit Schäffer in the College of Applied Arts, graduating in 1962. Immediately after graduation she joined the Hungarian Television, where she worked as a costume designer, and later as head of the artistic department for decades. She designed costumes for several operas for the Musical Theatre of the Hungarian Television. She was a permanent guest designer of the Vígszínház Theatre. She started to teach at the Academy of Drama in 1974. Her designs of Hungarian historical costumes have been exhibited in several American and European cities, and some years ago they were on display in the Nagytétény Castle Museum. During her career, 604 of her designs have been used, 87 of these were for operas. Besides Il barbiere di Siviglia, Marianne Wieber is the costume designer of Dido and Aeneas and Mario and the Magician in the Opera House.
