Alexander Gorsky
choreographer
(1871-1924)
Alexander Gorsky was a Russian choreographer and a contemporary of Marius Petipa, who was one of his teachers at the Imperial Ballet School. He started his career as a member of the corps de ballet, and on the stage rose to the level of soloist. Although he choreographed his own ballet, it was his restagings of Petipa's classical ballets, including Swan Lake, Don Quixote and The Nutcracker, that brought him real recognition.
