After graduating from the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, Tibor Kocsák became a lecturer at the College of Theatre and Film Arts in 1978, and then permanent guest conductor and in-house composer at the Rock Theatre. Since 1989, he has been music director and conductor at the Madách Theatre. His awards include the Emerton Award, the Huszka Award for the Hungarian composer of the year (1995), the Ferenc Erkel Award (2004), the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary (2005) and the For Budapest Award (2009). He has written incidental music for more than 50 theatrical productions, as well as songs, chansons, film music and a number of musicals. His works have been performed in Estonia, Finland, Japan, Germany, Romania and Slovakia. His principal works include The Chronicler (rock opera), Be Faithful Unto Death (musical), The Red Mill (musical), Anna Karenina (musical-opera), Travelling (musical), The Tragedy of Man (ballet), Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs (ballet) and Abigail (musical).
