It is often said – since it is undeniably true – that people learn best through play. Opera, as an art form, is filled with thrilling stories, mysteries to unravel, questions open to interpretation, and messages that resonate differently with each viewer. It also captivates with its enchanting visuals and unforgettable music. Opera draws its audience in – but what if it only lets them go after solving a series of challenges? What if, instead of just spectators, we become part of the story? Inspired by the legendary tale of Duke Bluebeard, the OPERA Vault’s arched basement houses an educational escape-room series, evoking the mysterious castle with its seven locked doors. Those who manage to escape will not only emerge into the fresh air of Andrássy Avenue but will also gain an exciting, hands-on understanding of the world of Béla Bartók and Béla Balázs’s international renowned one-act opera.
