In 1931, Miklós Radnai founded the memorabilia collection. The war-torn collection, which had fallen into disarray during World War II, was only inventoried again in 1973. Since then, relics spanning 140 years have once more been gathered under expert care. However, a permanent exhibition space – along with at least one rotating display – can only be established if the institution regains access to the ground-floor premises of the former Belcanto Restaurant, a municipally owned building that operated as an opera club until the early 1990s. Founding a museum is both a great opportunity and a significant responsibility. It presents an opportunity to showcase who we are, what makes us unique, and the cultural values we have created over nearly a century and a half. At the same time, it carries the responsibility of engaging both seasoned opera-goers, who have followed the art form for decades, and curious tourists, who may be stepping into this world for the first time. The OPERA Vault is scheduled to open in the first half of 2026.
