The central figure of the reconstruction plans of Count Miklós Bánffy at the beginning of the 20th century was István Medgyaszay. Allegedly it was his idea to open the roof of the Opera House on the Andrássy Avenue side of the building, which he reinforced with concrete pillars to get a huge, 430m2 space. It became the costume storage of the institution for over a century. The century-old wardrobes have been restored and reinstalled to the lower section of the space, as the costumes and accessories used in the given season will be moved here, and the spacious upper space functions as a multipurpose hall. An Opera Europa conference has taken place here, and the venue is suitable for press conference, exhibition, song recital, children’s activities, rehearsal, book signing, chamber music concert: anything goes in this accessible room with a capacity of 100-120. From autumn 2025, even the two existing support columns will no longer obstruct the view.
