The carriage entrance on Dalszínház Street was built in the middle of the Opera House’s side façade, as a counterpart to the side entrance on Hajós Street. Behind the heavy oak door lies the more than 100-square-meter Royal Reception Room, an ideal place for high-ranking guests to wait for each other. The room still contains original furniture: two oak benches adorned with sphinx armrests. The walls are decorated with a frieze by Mihály Kovács depicting musical putti, while next to the staircase stand two bronze statues of Kuruc pages by Gyula Bezerédi – figures between whom the Habsburg king had to pass. The painted faux-marble surfaces and the decorative relief panel above them were restored by the Opera House’s own decorative painters. The theatre’s electrical technicians discreetly installed LED strips behind the high cornices, while the faux-marble radiator covers were crafted by the institution’s maintenance team and decorative painters.
