Born in Karlsruhe in 1975, Constantin Trinks graduated with top honours from that city's Hochschüle für Music in 2000, where he studied piano simultaneously with his training as a conductor. After serving as répétiteur for the Aalto Theater Essen's 1996 production of Don Giovanni, he spent the years between 1997 and 2000 as guest répétiteur for the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe and as personal assistant to Maestro Kazushi Ono helped mount numerous opera productions. From 1999 to 2001 he sang as a tenor in the Kammerchor in Stuttgart. He has also worked at Karlsruhe's Händel Festival and the Bayreuth Festival on internships and scholarships. Serving as both vocal coach and conductor for the Badisches Staatstheater from 2000, he conducted productions of Le nozze di Figaro, Die Fledermaus and I puritani, among others. In 2002 he became second conductor of the Staatstheater Saarbrücken, where his repertoire expanded significantly to include Der fliegende Holländer, Arabella, Il trovatore, Lucia di Lammermoor, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, and other opera and ballet productions and symphonic works. As music director of the Saarländisches Staatstheater between 2006 and 2009, he conducted Das Rheingold, Lohengrin, Salome and other works for the first time. Since the 2009/10 season, he has been music director of Staatstheater Darmstadt, where he has conducted, for example, the world premiere of Orff's early work Gisei – Das Opfer. He made his debut at the Bayerische Staatstheater in 2011, with Der Rosenkavalier, and at Deutsche Oper Berlin in 2014, with Turandot, both to great acclaim.
