András Kiss was born in Budapest and began his vocal studies in 2004 with Olga Szilágyi, continuing from 2008 with Mária Temesi in Szeged. During his training, he won numerous awards, including three Grand Prix prizes in the Art Song category and one in the Opera category at the Northern Hungarian Singing Competition in Balassagyarmat between 2005 and 2008. He also achieved notable success at the National and International József Simándy Singing Competition and reached the finals of the Bohème Competition in Verona. He gained valuable artistic experience through masterclasses with Éva Marton, Mária Temesi, Krisztina Laky, Dénes Gulyás and Mihály Kálmándy. Since 2009, as a freelance artist, he has appeared regularly at the Hungarian State Opera and the National Theatre of Szeged in numerous roles, including Colline (La Bohème), Tom (Un ballo in maschera), Doctor Grenvil (La Traviata), Zaretsky (Eugene Onegin), King Pomádé (The Emperor’s New Clothes), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Don Magnifico (La Cenerentola), Banquo (Macbeth), and Ramfis (Aida). He made his debut at the Hungarian State Opera in the autumn of 2014 in Ernő Dohnányi’s The Tenor, and has since appeared there in a wide range of roles, including Betto di Signa (Gianni Schicchi), Colline (La Bohème), Uberto (La serva padrona), Basilio and Bartolo (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore), Tom (Un ballo in maschera), Don Annibale (Il campanello), Il Sagrestano (Tosca), and Il Commendatore (Don Giovanni). Tours of the Hungarian State Opera have taken him to Japan, Estonia, Dubai, Taiwan, Romania, Slovakia, and Serbia. In recent years, he has worked with renowned artists such as Plácido Domingo, Anna Netrebko, Yusif Eyvazov, Annalisa Stroppa, Andrey Zhilikovsky, Maestro Leonardo Sini, Maestro Pinchas Steinberg, Maestro Alan Buribajev, and Maestro Jader Bignamini. He has also collaborated with acclaimed stage directors such as Damiano Michieletto (La Bohème), Calixto Bieito (War and Peace), and Frank Hilbrich (Don Carlo). András Kiss is equally at home in buffo and serious repertoire. In 2018, he was awarded the Hungarian Bronze Cross of Merit (civil division).
