Ádám Nádasdy was born in Budapest in 1947 and qualified as a teacher of English and Italian. He then worked as a language school and high school teacher. Since 1972 he has taught linguistics in the English department of Eötvös Loránd University, and is a university professor. He writes informative articles about linguistics for various newspapers. He has published seven volumes of verse so far, most recently Sweat on the Statues (Verejték van a szobrokon, 2010). He has translated a number of plays from English (including works by Shakespeare, Wilde, Shaw and Osborne), and has also recently completed his translation of Dante's Divine Comedy. He created the Hungarian surtitles for the Hungarian State Opera's productions of Le Nozze di Figaro and Thomas Adès's opera The Tempest. He has been a member of the Széchenyi Academy of Literature and Arts since 2007.
