Hungarian baritone Gyula Orendt is member of the ensemble of Staatsoper Berlin, where engagements in the 2025-26 season include his role debuts of Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Pelléas in Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande, as well as Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Papageno in Zauberflöte, Figaro in Barbiere di Siviglia, Marcello in La Bohème. In May 2025 Gyula debuted with Sir Simon Rattle and the London Symphony Orchestra in Janacek’s The Excursions of Mr Brouček in the principal baritone parts at Barbican London. Gyula Orendt will return to the Barbican for his consecutive LSO production: role debut of Kurwenal in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde in July 2026, also on tour to Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. Guest highlight earlier in the 2025-26 season includes his return to Dutch National Opera Amsterdam as Tadeusz in Weinberg’s Die Passagierin in April 2026, where he debuted as Il Poeta/Orfeo in the creation of the passepartout production of early baroque music Le lacrime di Eros with Romeo Castellucci and Raphaël Pichon in November 2024.
Important engagements elsewhere include Tadeusz (Weinberg’s Die Passagierin) at Teatro Real Madrid, Marcelo in La Bohème at Hamburgische Staatsoper, Theatre Director and Policeman (Les Mamelles de Tirésias), Count Almaviva and Roberto/Nardo (La Finta Giardiniera) for Glyndebourne Festival, Count Almaviva for Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Liceu Barcelona and Hungarian Opera Budapest, Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) for Bavarian State Opera and The Royal Opera London, Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) for The Royal Opera, Edinburgh Festival and Palau de les Arts Valencia, as well as Gaveston/Stranger (George Benjamin’s Lessons in Love and Violence) for The Royal Opera, Dutch National Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Opéra de Lyon, and the Philharmonic Halls of Paris, Brussels, Cologne and Essen.
Concert engagements include Schönberg’s Die Jakobsleiter with the Berlin Philharmonics under Kirill Petrenko, Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn with Concerto Budapest and George Benjamin’s Sometime Voices with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.
