Sámuel Tóth was born in 1989 in Cluj-Napoca. He completed his secondary school studies at the Béla Bartók Secondary School of Music in Budapest, majoring in classical piano. He graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, received his diploma in the master’s programme as a pianist, piano teacher, and répétiteur in 2013. As a recent graduate, he became one of the répétiteurs of the Hungarian State Opera, had the opportunity to try his hand as a conducting répétiteur during rehearsals. This experience set him on the path to a conducting career, leading him to resume his studies at the Academy of Music, this time majoring in conducting, where he graduated in 2022 in the class of Ádám Medveczky and András Ligeti. He made his successful conducting debut at the Hungarian State Opera in 2019 and has since been regularly conducting opera and ballet performances there He has been the director of the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra since 2023.
