Hungarian conductor Simon Erdei is currently based in Vienna, where he is pursuing advanced studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under Professors Mark Stringer, Alois Glaßner, and Francesco Angelico. He began his formal piano studies in Sopron, continued at the Győr Conservatory, and later at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan. Since February 2026, he has been the musical director of the Vienna University of Technology Orchestra. He is a regular guest conductor of the Liszt Ferenc Symphony Orchestra of Sopron, and throughout his career has conducted numerous Hungarian and international ensembles, including the Wiener Kammerorchester, the MÁV Symphony Orchestra, the Savaria Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Plovdiv Opera, and the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra.

In 2025, he served as musical director of the pasticcio opera Medea at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. As an assistant conductor, he collaborated in productions at the Hungarian State Opera, the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, and the Neue Oper Wien, as well as at the Johann Strauss Jubilee Festival. He has participated in numerous international masterclasses, studying with, among others, Alain Altinoglu, Sian Edwards, and Gergely Vajda. In 2023, he won third prize at the International Conducting Competition in Cascais. In 2026, he is involved in several significant projects: he conducts the Hungarian State Opera’s production of The Magic Flute for Children, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra in the Great Hall of the Musikverein, and performs with the Vienna University of Technology Orchestra in Vienna, Kirchstetten, and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
