Born in the Transylvanian town of Belényes (Beiuș), Anna Pánti pursued her education in Nagyszalonta (Salonta) and Nagyvárad (Oradea), obtaining her degree in voice in the latter city. For eight years, she worked as a teacher and concert singer. While studying under Magda Papp, she made her opera debut in the role of the Queen of the Night with the Oradea Philharmonic, and at the recommendation of Dr Jenő Sipos applied for an audition at the Hungarian State Opera. Her portrayal of Mozart’s character earned her a scholarship there, and she later jumped in to make her debut in the same role. She then went on to sing at the Opera as a soloist for 17 years, with Margit László as her vocal coach.
Winning the Erkel Award at the 1990 Erkel-Kodály International Singing Competition led to an invitation to participate in the Rio de Janeiro International Singing Competition, which in turn resulted in an engagement at the São Luís Opera Festival. She has made guest appearances in various major cities in Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Italy, the USA, Canada and Brazil.
Her principal roles include Mária Gara (in Erkel’s Hunyadi László), the Queen of the Night, Papagena, Olympia (in Les contes d’Hoffmann), Norina (in Don Pasquale), Nannetta (in Falstaff) and the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor. As a member of the Budapest Chamber Opera, she sang the role of Amore in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice and Zerbinetta in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, while also appearing in contemporary and fairy tale operas (such as Eric Sessler’s The Inquisitive Prince).
In addition to singing, she is also involved in writing poetry and belongs to various literary and artistic groups. She became an Opera Ambassador in 2017.
