Sándor Palcsó joined the Hungarian State Opera in 1974, first working as a prompter, and then from 1982 as a director's assistant. In 1992 he became first stage director and directing coordinator, and is responsible for mounting a large part of the theatre's repertoire pieces. He revived such pieces as La bohème (1993), Il trovatore (1996) and Don Pasquale (2006). In 2000, he made his debut directing an independent production, with Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore at the Erkel Theatre.
