Viktor Nagy graduated from the Pedagogical College of Pécs and then later taught in a music school in addition to playing French horn for the Pécs Symphony Orchestra. In his third year at the College of Theatre and Film, Ottó Ádám invited him to the Madách Theatre to serve as his assistant. After graduating from there, he signed with the theatre and directed its musical premieres. Between 1991 and 1993, he was chief director at the Opera, and remained one of its directors until 2007. He then went on to serve, between 2007 and 2011, as general director of the National Theatre of Győr, where he has been a director since 2011. He received the Kálmán Nádasdy Award in 2012 and the Mari Jászai Award in 2014.
His productions at the Opera House include Puccini's Tosca (1998), Offenbach's Orphée aux enfers (1992), Berg's Wozzeck (1992), Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur (1992), Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen (1993, 1995, 1996, 1998), Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle (1993), Verdi's Aida (1993), Puccini's Il tabarro (1996), Rossini's La Cenerentola (1998), Verdi's Rigoletto (1999) and Dohnányi's The Tower of the Voivod (2003).
