Danubia Orchestra Óbuda
Ever since it was formed, the Danubia Orchestra Óbuda has always represented the youthful dynamism of Hungary's classical music scene. It stands out from other professional orchestras for its innovative initiatives and its creative efforts on behalf of musical education for young people. Over the past three years, the orchestra has undergone a comprehensive renewal under the direction of its artistic director, Máté Hámori, who has expanded the ensemble's range of activities to include new concert series and unconventional youth programmes. The orchestra's concerts are invariably sold-out affairs, and the recent innovations mean that it gets to welcome back many young visitors as regular attendees. The DOÓ has upheld the reputation of both Hungary and Óbuda around the world, too, most recently in November 2016, with a highly acclaimed concert in the Paris studios of Radio France. Performing more than 90 concerts – including subscription series at the Liszt Academy and the Budapest Music Center – and opera and youth performances annually, the ensemble has in recent years developed into one of Hungary's most successful symphony orchestras.
