Shakespeare Gala – An Evening with Plácido Domingo

Due to great demand by the public to see Plácido Domingo perform at the Budapest Opera House, the Shakespeare Ball is transformed into a Shakespeare Gala, which gives the opportunity to more than 1200 people to hear the Spanish star tenor perform.

Christmas concerts at the Opera – Händel: Messiah

In the final week of advent, Messiah by Händel is performed on two nights under the baton of conductor Paul Goodwin at the Opera House: on 21 December, 2015, as part of the series by the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, on 22 December as the Opera Christmas concert.

Due to the illness of Ildebrando D'Arcangelo, the title role of Mozart's Don Giovanni is sung byErwin Schrott on 4 and 6 December, 2015. 

Nutcracker Festival from 29 November

On 29 November, 2015, this year's Nutcracker Festival begins in front of the Opera House, where a great Christmas tree and wooden huts selling mulled wine await crowds.

Alexander Lazarev conducts the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra on 30 November

The next concert in the series of the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Alexander Lazarev on Monday, 30 November, 2015 at 7.30 p.m at the Opera House. The programme includes Piano Concerto 1 in d minor by Brahms (featuring pianist Sofya Gulyak) and Elgar's Symnphony No. 1.

Wayne Eagling and Tamás Solymosi's new Nutcracker premieres at the Opera

Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker has for decades been an essential part of the Opera’s run-up to Christmas. In memory of Vasili Vainonen and Gusztáv Oláh, we are presenting for Christmas of 2015 a newly buffed-up show that follows classical ballet traditions while still conforming to the requirements of 21st century dance and set design.

Masterclass of Xavier Sabata at the Hungarian State Opera

Xavier Sabata is one of the most outstanding contra tenors of 21st century. The Catalan singer first performed at the Hungarian State Opera in the season of 2014/15 in Vivaldi’s Farnace. He is going to hold his master class between 7 and 10 December in the Bertalan Székely Hall in the Hungarian State Opera.
