GreekLateNight – premiere at the Music Academy

The new season will continue the series of chamber operas performed in the Sir Georg Solti Hall at the Liszt Music Academy. This time, we pursue the theme of love in classical Greece, and in an unusual format as well: two operas by different composers – Gluck and Bertoni – will treat the myth of Orpheus in two different ways. Premiere: 5 Februray, 2016.

Edita Gruberová song recital at the Opera House

Edita Gruberová, the most renowned coloratura soprano gives a song recital for the first time at the Budapest Opera on 31 January. She is accompanied on the piano by Peter Valentovic, a regular guest conductor at European concert halls.

White, Black – Opposites in Attraction: ballet premiere at the Erkel Theatre

White, Black – Opposites in Attraction is the new, spectacular dance show of the Hungarian National Ballet at the Erkel Theatre. Audiences can enjoy two Hungarian premieres: Sarabande and Falling Angels by internationally renowned choreographer Jiří Kylián. In the second part of the programme, Harald Lander's Etudes return to the stage.

Audiences can celebrate Erika Miklósa at the Erkel Theatre on 21 January, 2016. For her 25th anniversary on stage, one of the most popular Hungarian opera singers has invited international friends and colleagues to Budapest. Beside Daniela Pini and Leonardo Ferrando, Gergely Boncsér, Attila Dolhai and István Horváth join her on stage. The concert features coloratura arias as well as excerpts from musicals and operettas.

Reimann: Lear – Hungarian premiere

An extraordinary highlight of the Shakespeare season of the Opera is the 30 January Hungarian premiere of Lear. The opera by German composer Aribert Reimann is put on stage by Ferenc Anger. His work is based on the Munich world premiere production by the legendary director, Jean-Pierre Ponnelle.

Shakespeare Gala – An Evening with Plácido Domingo

Due to great demand by the public to see Plácido Domingo perform at the Budapest Opera House, the Shakespeare Ball is transformed into a Shakespeare Gala, which gives the opportunity to more than 1200 people to hear the Spanish star tenor perform.

Christmas concerts at the Opera – Händel: Messiah

In the final week of advent, Messiah by Händel is performed on two nights under the baton of conductor Paul Goodwin at the Opera House: on 21 December, 2015, as part of the series by the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, on 22 December as the Opera Christmas concert.
