Faust225 Festival

Similar to 2014 when the Strauss150 Festival crowned our 130th season, the Faust225 Festival aims to present the most concentrated event of this season on the 225th anniversary of the first publication of Goethe’s Faust – A Fragment. Five brilliant pieces built on the topic of Faust can be heard (among them the premiere of Gounod’s opera and the Hungarian premiere of Busoni’s work), with a rarity concert by the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra to conclude the series that spans over two weeks featuring world-wide acclaimed Hungarian singers and international guest stars. All performances take place at the Opera House.

World Voice Day at the Erkel Theatre

The Hungarian State Opera first joined the internationally celebrated World Voice Day in 2014. Following its success, it is once more organized at the Erkel Theatre on 16 April 2015.

Primavera '15

The Hungarian State Opera as a national institution regards it as its duty to support the opera playing of other Hungarian towns. This realization led to the birth of the Primavera series in 2013 which allows guest companies to present their productions at the Erkel Theatre over a week.

Pas de quatre '15 and DanceTrend'15

On 29 and 30 March 2015, the most renowned dance ensembles as well as alternative dance companies can be seen on stage of the Erkel Theatre.

Wagner's Ring returns to the Opera

The Hungarian State Opera presents Das Rheingold on 21 March 2015. Wagner's Ring cycle has been missing from the repertoires for years. This spring director Géza M. Tóth begins to rebuild the tetralogy.

Nabucco premiere at the Erkel Theatre

Until the past season, a production by András Mikó had featured in the programme for almost thirty years, since 1987. It had been performed 236 times.

FAUST BALL - Charity ball at the Hungarian State Opera on 14 February 2015

The Opera organizes its grand event of integrated arts entitled Faust Ball on 14 February 2015. Similar to the first ball in 2014 entitled Silver Rose Ball, its main mission is a charitable cause: the guests contribute to the purchase of an ambulance for the Hungarian National Emergency Ambulance Service. Special guest of the ball is international superstar soprano Angela Gheorghiu.

Concerts at the Opera

At the end of January, between two regular concerts, the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra gives another one in memory of the victims of the holocaust. The winter concert series feature renowned conductors as well as young, award-winning soloists.

The Rake’s Progress premieres on 18 January

As the first premiere in 2015, the Hungarian State Opera produces The Rake’s Progress by Igor Stravinsky. So far it has only been featured in the repertoire of the Opera only once – it was put on stage 35 years ago. In the production by director Ferenc Anger two international guest artists make their Hungarian debut on 18 January 2015.
