Concerts at the Opera

At the end of January, between two regular concerts, the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra gives another one in memory of the victims of the holocaust. The winter concert series feature renowned conductors as well as young, award-winning soloists.

The Rake’s Progress premieres on 18 January

As the first premiere in 2015, the Hungarian State Opera produces The Rake’s Progress by Igor Stravinsky. So far it has only been featured in the repertoire of the Opera only once – it was put on stage 35 years ago. In the production by director Ferenc Anger two international guest artists make their Hungarian debut on 18 January 2015.

Enrol as a debutante or beau for the Faust Ball

On 14 February 2015, as the closure of the carnival period, following the traditons of the turn of the previous century, a charity ball of all arts entitled Faust Ball is organized by the Hungarian State Opera. Manuela Uhl in Die Frau ohne Schatten

The soprano possessing extraordinary vocal qualities once again saves a Strauss performance at the Opera. In May she took over the title role of Salome. Her voice and her dance of the seven veils charmed the audience of the Strauss150 Festival. On 9 November, despite the illness of Eszter Sümegi, the opera is going to be a first-class performance thanks to the German soprano in the role of the Kaiserin (Empress) in Die Frau ohne Schatten.
