Dear esteemed audience,
As part of the Hungarian government’s comprehensive economic measures in relation to the war in Ukraine, the ministry maintaining the Hungarian State Opera House gave notice of the reduction of 600 million HUF from the theatre’s annual budget. As a result of previous and further expected measures for savings, OPERA expects a total budget reduction of 1 billion HUF for the year 2022 and 500 million HUF for the year 2023. The recent increase in utility costs and vulnerability to currency exchange rates have placed additional burden on our theatre.
For these reasons, the Hungarian State Opera is inclined to make the following changes in its 2022/2023 season plan:
- Performances announced for the Eiffel Art Studios’ Miklós Bánffy Stage have been cancelled. (The cancellation does not affect children's programs such as Little Swan Lake and The Valiant Johnny, as well as the presentation of the productions The Stubborn Princess and Little Sleeping Beauty, all of which will take place in the Miklós Bánffy Stage.)
- The remaining premieres (The Fifth Seal, Artaban, Orfeo & Euridice, Tancredi & Clorinda) will be performed by OPERA within three years, in a later season.

The two Opera House performances of the premiere John the Valiant will take place in the form of previews.

Mahler’s 8th Symphony scheduled for October 1, 2022 has been moved from the Eiffel Art Studios to the Opera House.
- The Opera House concerts of Olga Peretyatko on October 1, 2022 and Ferruccio Furlanetto on June 9, 2023 have also been cancelled.
OPERA refunds subscriptions and tickets in the form of their purchase.
Refunds of subscriptions and tickets purchased online will be processed automatically. The bank transfer time should not take more than 30 days.
Subscriptions and tickets purchased in person at the ticket offices will be refunded in cash or by bank transfer upon request at the OPERA Sales Centre on Hajós utca and at the ticket office of the Hungarian State Opera House during opening hours. Tickets and subscriptions can be refunded until December 31, 2022.
In addition, the OPERA provides a 20% discount for Opera House tickets in the 2022/2023 season, in the amount of the refunded Eiffel Art Studios tickets.
