Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra Concert
30 May 2016, 7:30 p.m.
In Brief
Concerts of the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra
As the employer of the musicians of the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra and the very first institution to be able to showcase Hungary's long and continuous tradition – going back to 1838 – of symphonic music, the Hungarian State Opera preserves the name of the orchestra in its original form for its concert performances, and this is also reflected in both its concert subscription. At the same time, the ensemble also continues its own existence, which is a rich one: the Opera's orchestra manages the physical artefacts from its nearly 180 years of history, collaborates with the institution on Andrássy Avenue on a contractual basis and its orchestral musicians organise concerts under their own, original, name when free of operatic duties.
