FIGARO3

contemporary opera 16

In Brief

Opera-mix in two parts, in Hungarian, with Hungarian and English surtitles

The Barber of Seville / The Marriage of Figaro / The Guilty Mother

Performance length: , with 1 intermission.

Three operas by three composers on one night: that’s what Figaro3 is all about. Along with Rossini and Mozart, Beaumarchais’s Figaro trilogy also inspired the rarely heard composer Darius Milhaud. This production features a unique treatment by András Dömötör and Gergely Litkai that focuses dramaturgically on the story of Rosina and Almaviva and provides the opera singers with an opportunity they have never had before: to finally be able to perform their characters’ roles across the entire course of the trilogy. We have refashioned their parts at the edges so that they can start from Mozart’s version, the musical epicentre of the whole production. And helping us will be the character Léon, the late-arriving child of the count and countess whose entire life story is at the centre of all of his family’s dramas and secrets: as part of a unique course of therapy, he attempts to finally unravel his family history to find out why it turned out in the way that only opera fans know – or perhaps might not.
