In Brief

Festive gala concert with Hungarian and English surtitles

Performance length: , without intermissions

Klára Kolonits has had a special career. She’s likely the only soprano in the world who sang the role of Judith in Bluebeard’s Castle before taking on the role of the Queen of the Night. Strangely, it took almost a decade for Klára Kolonits to make her way to the OPERA, where she immediately debuted in a leading role as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte. She has remained loyal to Mozart and has been given worthy role in all the works of the Salzburg genius that are currently on the repertoire. The soprano found her true calling in the world of Hungarian and international bel canto heroines. Beyond the works of Bellini, Donitetti, and Meyerbeer, she has showcased her exceptional technique in such rarities as Donzietti’s Maria Stuarda, which was performed in Szeged. Yet, Erkel’s operas are just as important to Kolonits; in addition to roles like Erzsébet Szilágyi and Melinda, she has recorded Bátori Mária and Erzsébet in concert versions. Her CD entitled Bel Canto Reloaded also piqued the interest of the international professional community.
