Moldovan baritone Andrey Zhilikhovsky completed his studies in choral conducting at the Stefan Nyaga Musical College in Chișinău, Moldova. Whilst at college, he also studied as a vocalist and upon graduation was given a place at the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory in St Petersburg where he made his debut in the title role in Eugene Onegin.
Recent highlights for Andrey include his debut at the Royal Opera House as Marcello in Richard Jones' acclaimed production of La bohème. He also returned to the Bayerische Staatsoper in a role debut as Andrei Bolkonsky in a new production of Prokofiev’s War and Peace, under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski. In the summer of 2023, Andrey returned to Glyndebourne to make his debut in the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
An exciting 2023/2024 season for Andrey will involve several returns including the Teatro Regio Torino and Royal Opera House as Marcello in La bohème, as well as the Dresden Semperoper as Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. He makes his Hungarian State Opera debut as Andrei Bolkonsky in Calixto Bieito’s production of War and Peace.
