After completing her early schooling in Debrecen, Gyöngyvér Gupcsó graduated from the Zoltán Koldály High School of Music in the same city in 1974 with a specialisation in piano and music composition. She earned her diploma as a high school voice teacher and chorusmaster in 1979, after studying with Péter Erdei, József Maklári, Erzsébet Szőny and Tibor Erkel, and another in music composition under Emil Petrovics in 1984. She has served as a répétiteur for the Hungarian State Opera's chorus since 1979. She has been the head of the children's chorus between 1987 and 2016. She sang for the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy's Chamber Chorus for seven years, and since 1978 has been a member of the Budapest-based Tomkins Vocal Ensemble. While her chief task is heading up the children's chorus and developing and teaching its soloists, she also performs as a piano accompanist at song recitals.
