Krisztina Kónya earned her degree in voice and voice pedagogy from the University of Szeged Music Conservatory in 2002. Her teachers were Tamás Buda and Edit D. Szécsi, but during her university years she also also repeatedly participated in master classes by Ilona Adorján, Adrienne Csengery and Júlia Hamari. In that same year, she signed with the chorus of the National Theatre of Szeged, where for five years Liszt Prize-winning opera singer Kálmán Gyimesi served as her voice coach. In both 2006 and 2007 she received the chorus' Award of Excellence, and since 2008 has been a soloist at the National Theatre of Szeged. She has made several guest appearances at Debrecen's Csokonai National Theatre, at the National Theatre of Győr, as well as the Teatro Verdi in Trieste. In 2009, she toured Spain with the Szeged Symphony Orchestra with a programme of works by the Strauss family. She was named “young singer of the season” in Szeged in 2008 and becane the first person to receive the Ferenc Bessenyei Art Award in 2009. In 2010, she received the Dömötör Award presented to the best female opera singer at her theatre, and in 2011 was named the “opera singer of the year” by the Friends of the Opera Society of Szeged. A few years later, in 2014, she again received the Dömötör Award for the best female opera singer, and also took home the Viktor Vaszy Award.
