Lilia Pocitari was born in Chișinău, Moldova, in 1997 in a family of musicians. She began playing the violin at the age of three. In 2019, Lilia completed her Bachelor’s degree at the Buchmann – Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv in the class of Ilya Konovalov – concertmaster of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. She is currently studying for Master of Music at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin with Prof. Ulf Wallin. From the age of five, Lilia has been a first and grand prize winner of international competitions including the International Competition Europa Fest “Jeunesses Musicales” in Romania; the Grand Prix and the Special Prize of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY) at the International Competition “Balys Dvarionas” in Vilnius, Lithuania; Gold Medal at the International Delphic Games in Astana, Kazakhstan. She has also recently won first prize at the Bartók World Competition in Budapest.
She has performed under the baton of Zubin Mehta at the Charles Bronfman Auditorium in Tel Aviv, as well as with the Wiener Kammerorchester in Wiener Konzerthaus, and with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Julian Rachlin. She has also collaborated with conductors Patrik Strub, Neil Thompson, and Vladimir Spivakov. Lilia plays a 1779 Nicola Bergonzi violin and a François Nicolas Voirin bow, kindly loaned by Alpha Capital Anstalt.
