Gábor Péter Mezei was born in Budapest in 1982 and took an interest in music at the age of eight. After completing his regular high school studies, he enrolled at Budapest's King Saint Stephen High School of Music to specialise in piano, earning his diploma there. In 2000 and 2001 he played live piano improvisations for silent films as part of the “Örökmozgó” Film Museum's Hungarian Film Festival in Budapest (in cooperation with the Hungarian National Film Archive). He then studied music composition, first at Munich's Hochschule für Musik und Theater under Dieter Acker and Jan Müller-Wieland, and later at the Mozarteum Salzburg with Adriana Hölszky. In 2005, he was a prize-winner at the International Franz Josef Reinl Composition Competition in Vienna. In 2010/2011 he was awarded a scholarship, sponsored by the Bavarian State Ministry for Science, Research and Art, to attend the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. He then went on to win the Berlin Scholarship from the Akademie der Künste Berlin in 2013. He currently lives and works in Munich as a freelance composer, music arranger and orchestrator of film music.
