Gábor Németh was born in Kapuvár and attended the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music between 1967 and 1972 as a student of Mrs. Ferenc Révhegyi and József Réti. He made his Opera House debut in 1972 as Marullo in Rigoletto. From 1972 to 1983 he was a soloist at the theatre, and from 1983 was a member of the People's Theatre. His repertoire is composed of lyric baritone roles, and he is also a successful singer of art songs. From 1970 to 1976 he achieved outstanding results at several international song competitions (in Paris, Leipzig and Munich), and also won Hungarian Radio's Song Competition.
