Born in Szeged in 1964, Attila Réti earned his teaching degree in Hungarian French from the Faculty of Humanities at József Attila University (today's University of Szeged) in 1988, after studying under Margit Jarosiewitz Fekete. Between 1991 and 1993, he took part in post-graduate training at the Ferenc Liszt Conservatory of Music, where his teacher was György Sinkó. He then went on to study with Theodore Coresi from 1994 to 1995 and with Zsolt Bende from 1997 to 1998. He made his debut at the National Theatre of Szeged in 1990. His principal roles include Don Giovanni, Belcore (L'elisir d'amore), Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Valentin and Méphistophélès (Gounod's Faust), Escamillo (Carmen), Germont (La traviata), Don Carlo (La forza del destino), Onegin, Count di Luna (Il trovatore), Scarpia (Tosca). In 1999 he won the National Theatre of Szeged's Dömötor Award for the best opera singer, and he also received the Artisjus Award in 2000 and 2003.
