Árpád Sándor was born in 1978, in Székelyudvarhely (Odorheiu Secuiesc) where he commenced his music studies at the Palló Imre Music High School. He then went on to continue them at the Gheorghe Dima Academy of Music in Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca), under the tutelage of Iulian Jurja. He has been a soloist at the Hungarian Opera of Cluj-Napoca since 2003, and has collaborated with the opera houses of Budapest, Bucharest, Miskolc and Kolozsvár, as well as with the theatres of Kaposvár, Kecskemét, Eger and Kolozsvár and the philharmonic orchestras of Marosvásárhely (Târgu Mureș), Bucharest, Szatmár (Satu Mare), Nagyszeben (Sibiu), Brassó (Braşov), Székelyudvarhely and Kolozsvár. He has appeared in Italy, Croatia, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Hungary. In 2005, he won an award at the Hariclea Darclée International Singing Competition in Brăila, and also won the Hungarian Opera of Cluj-Napoca's Ágnes Kriza Award in that same year. In 2007, he won the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj's artistic council's award for his performance in the title role of Gianni Schicchi as well. In 2011, he won the Lya Hubic Trophy. His rich opera repertoire includes roles from Mozart (Papageno), Donizetti (Raimondo and Dulcamara), Bizet (Escamillo), Ferenc Erkel (Petur bán, Tiborc, György Brankovics, Árvai and Szepelik), Verdi (Zaccaria, Attila, the Marquis d'Obigny, Monterone, Sparafucile and Ramfis), Leoncavallo (Tonio), Puccini (Schaunard, Gianni Schicchi, Simone, Timur), and he also takes roles in works by contemporary composers like György Selmeczi, Levente Gyöngyösi and Cornel Țăranu. His symphonic repertoire comprises works by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Rossini, Verdi and Shostakovich.
