Szilveszter Szélpál was born in 1984, in Szeged. After first earning a degree in physics from the University of Szeged's Faculty of Natural Sciences and Informatics in 2009, he then went on to earn another diploma in solo voice from the Faculty of Music under the guidance of Mária Temesi and István Andrejcsik. She has taken part in master classes held by Magda Nádor, Krisztina Laki and Éva Marton, and has been singing at the National Theatre of Szeged since 2009. His principal roles include Béni (King Pomádé's New Clothes), Dandini (La Cenerentola), Belcore (L'elisir d'amore), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Melitone (La forza del destino), Dancaïre (Carmen), Douphol (La traviata), Marullo (Rigoletto), Fléville (Andrea Chénier), Cascada (The Merry Widow), the title role of Prince Bob and René (The Count of Luxembourg). In 2015, The Szeged Society of Friends of the Opera declared him the “best young singer of the year”, and he also received the Dömötör Award in 2016.
