Born in 1991, Bálint Szilágyi pursued German studies in Vienna and Hungarian in Budapest. Since 2012, he has been a student in the directing department of the University of Theatre and Film Arts, in the puppetry directing course headed by Kata Csató and Tibor Csizmadia. His production Do Fish Sleep?, premiered on the Ódry State in 2015, won a special prie as the RS9 Off Theatre Festival, as well as the award for best production at the MOST Festival in Tatabánya. It was also at the Ódry Stage where he premiered his production of Der Hauptmann von Köpenick (2016), and he also mounted his Rosalie Goes Off to Die at the Studio K Theatre in the same year. Previously, he had worked as assistant director on the production of Das goldene Vlies (2015) at Munich's Residenztheater. He made his Hungarian State Opera debut in the autumn of 2015, presenting Donizetti's I pazzi per progetto on the Sphinx Terrace of the Opera House.
