János Szilágyi was born in Tasnád (Tășnad) in 1975 and completed his studies in Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca): at the Reformed High School there and at the Gheorghe Dima Academy of Music (his teachers were Angela Nemeş and Dan Serbac). He is a member of the Hungarian Opera of Cluj-Napoca. His work has been recognised with the Ágnes Kriza Award. His repertoire includes roles from Puccini (Colline, Bonzo, Angelotti, Betto and Simone), Mozart (Sarastro and the Old Priest), Beethoven (Rocco), Rossini (Don Basilio), Donizetti (Raimondo), Verdi (Sparafucile, Doctor Grenvil, Pistola, Attila, the High Priest of Baal), Strauss (Truffaldino), Bizet (Zuniga), Bartók (Bluebeard), Ferenc Erkel (Ulrik Cillei, Biberach, Péter and King Coloman the Learned) and György Selmeczi (the Conductor).
