Jonathan Tetelman is widely considered to be one of today’s most exciting upcoming stars and is praised for his "vocally magnificent, radiant and distinctive tenor” voice (Opera Aktuell). The Chilean-born and New Jersey-raised tenor appears on stages of renowned houses with world-famous orchestras and shows his skills in "darkly coloured tenor timbre" (SZ) and with "balmy verve" (Der Tagesspiegel).
After completing his performance studies program at The New School of Music, Mannes College and earning his undergraduate degree from Manhattan School of Music, Jonathan Tetelman made a string of successful house and role debuts in quick succession: his Royal Opera House at Covent Garden debut as both Alfredo in La traviata and Rodolfo in La bohème, sang the role of Canio in Pagliacci and Cavaradossi in Tosca with Teatro Regio Torino, made his role debut as B.F. Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with Opéra national de Montpellier, sang Tosca and Madama Butterfly at the Dresden Semperoper and Cavaradossi in Tosca at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. With Opéra de Lille he performed as Cavaradossi in Tosca and as Don José alongside Elīna Garanča in a concert tour of Carmen through Eastern Europe which was broadcast on Bartók Radio. The tenor gave performances of Werther with both Gran Teatro Nacional de Lima and Opera del Teatro Solis in Montevideo (Uruguay), of La bohème (Rodolfo) with Komische Oper Berlin, English National Opera in London and Fujian Grand Theatre in China, and of Rigoletto (Duca) with Berkshire Opera Festival.
On the concert stage, Jonathan Tetelman has sung Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the San Francisco Symphony under Maestro Michael Tilson Thomas (September 2019) and with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker under Maestro Dan Ettinger, joined soprano Kristine Opolais in a gala performance in Moscow as well as with the Wurth Philharmoniker in Künzelsau, Germany. He also joined the Copenhagen Philharmonic for a Verdi Gala and has sung Verdi’s Requiem with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Andris Nelsons at the 2019 Tanglewood Festival. Other orchestras he worked with are the Milan Festival Orchestra, the Greenwich Village Orchestra and performed Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius with the Orchestra Now, sang both Dvorak’s Requiem and Stabat Mater with the St. George’s Choral Society and joined soprano Nadine Sierra in concert at Festival Napa Valley 2018.
Jonathan Tetelman recently signed an exclusive multi album agreement with record label Deutsche Grammophon. Together with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria and its principal conductor Karel Mark Chichon, he recorded his first album “Arias” with music by Verdi and famous Verismo arias, a selection from the lyrical French repertoire and duets with the Lithuanian soprano Vida Miknevičiûtė. It was released on August 12, 2022.
